Physical/practical, Emotional and Spirit. My interest in this angle was
prompted when I saw the great leadership writer, Peter Drucker, say:
“Your first and foremost job as a leader is to manage your own energy, and help manage the energy of those around you.” The key is to be able to notice their presence and absence in yourself and others. And then practice being able to bring the energy that is missing but most needed. In many groups, it will be the Emotional or Spirit Energy that is missing, particularly where intellectual horsepower is so valued. The emphasis in the session is on self-awareness, exploration and choice.

Crossword Puzzles, Rap Songs, and Cartoons – Oh, My! –

How to engage students and keep them engaged is easily the #1 concern of any educator. For once the students are engaged they not only learn but want to learn, and motivate themselves to continue learning. There are many strategies that are employed by educators to accomplish this; several are successful, some not. It can be “trial-end-error” to find what keeps a class engaged. One approach that can be extremely successful is the use of creativity, including crossword puzzles, rap songs, cartoons, and more. This non-traditional approach definitely gets students engaged – and certainly helps keep them engaged!

In the mid-13th century, British law imposed strict regulations on bakers regarding the weight of bread. Bakers wanted to make sure they complied, since the penalties were severe (a fine or the pillory, although nothing involving ears, so far as I know). It was difficult to make loaves of uniform weight in those days before automation, so bakers added a 13th loaf to every shipment of 12–better to be overweight than under. Thus “a baker’s dozen” meant 13. Now, we have a zoom webinar that offers a baker’s dozen – 12 ideas with a little bonus- a thirteenth idea. This session will include the “Baker’s Dozen” process for getting a new online course ready to offer to distant learners. The primary audience is the new or nearly new online instructor, but information for the more experienced distance educator will also be provided.
