Upswing partners with colleges and institutions to reverse the dropout rate of non-traditional students. We do so by providing a software platform that engages and then connects these students with the critical staff members necessary to ensure they graduate.
Our theory of change is simple: non-traditional students drop out of college at twice the rate as their peers due to lack of engagement with and connection to key staff members (e.g., tutors, counselors, advisors, professors). If colleges believe that investing funds into these staff members is critical to their goal of increasing persistence, then the idea that non-traditional students – who pay the exact same college costs as their peers – cannot receive this support is a major issue. Upswing’s goal is to not only provide this connection, but to also proactively engage students so that the connections can occur.
To date, Upswing has produced over a dozen case studies that consistently show that using Upswing just 3x in a semester improves persistence rates by 10-15% per institution. It is because of this impact that our work has been independently evaluated and backed by such great organizations as Stanford University, the Bill & Melina Gates Foundation, the United Way, and the Lumina Foundation.
