Marci Powell is an expert in the field of educational technology with extensive experience in applications related to lifelong learning and innovation. She currently serves as United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) Chair of Global Partnerships and is also Chair Emerita and Past President of the association.
With over 25 years of progressive leadership and management serving as an advisor to public and private sectors in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific, Marci shares global best practices role at USDLA, Powell focuses on global support of distance learning programming and international exchange. In her current capacity at Marci Powell & Associates, she supports a variety of organizations worldwide through thought leadership and strategic planning guidance in the use of technology to address education and training.
Prior to assuming her current position Powell was the Global Director for Education at Polycom. She has also served as President of VibrantC, Inc., Global Education Market Manager for VTEL and Director of Educational Advocacy for AT&T where she was named to AT&T’s 2004 President’s Club for top achievers. While there, she worked with numerous educational institutions and business training organizations providing support for their innovative vision for learning.
Powell began her career as a classroom teacher and quickly moved on to serve as an administrator at various educational institutions across Texas. Marci was inducted into the Texas Distance Learning Association (TxDLA) Hall of Fame in 2011 and the USDLA Hall of Fame in 2012. Most recently Marci was named Higher Ed Tech Decisions 2014 Top 10 Leaders in Higher Education. In 2014, the European Distance and Elearning Network named Marci an EDEN Fellow for her distinguish contributions to the European learning field.
Her articles on digital learning, video for learning, and innovative education have been published in USA Today, ATD T&D Magazine, Information Week, Education Dive (Australia), Campus Review, Modern China, USDLA Distance Learning Magazine for Leaders, School News (New Zealand), UKDLA Distance Learning Publication, Examiner, and The Conference Zone. Powell has been interviewed or quoted by numerous publications including Financial Times, Washington Post, University Business Magazine, NZ Interface Magazine, Campus Technology Magazine, Asia Pacific’s Future Gov magazine, Auckland Herald, Japan’s Nikkei IT Pro and many online environments.
Ms. Powell serves on the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), USDLA Board of Directors, and EduAlliance board (UAE). Her work with organizations such as the European Distance and Elearning Network (EDEN), Internet2, Ankabut, The Masie Center LEARNING Consortium as well as with educational institutions, various ministries of education, and businesses helps drive high quality learning environments worldwide. Her focus is to not only ensure institutions have the tools they need but are implementing best practices pedagogically and in business workflow processes.
