Director, Educational Technology and Media Services, University of Northern Iowa
Richard Seeley is the Director of Educational Technology and Media Services (ETMS) at the University of Northern Iowa. In this role, he leads the Instructional Technologies, Learning Technologies, and Media Services teams, ensuring the effective integration of advanced technologies to support the university’s mission.
Richard holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Broadcasting, Production, Performance, and Writing, and an MBA. He is also a certified Six Sigma Green Belt, underscoring his commitment to process improvement and operational excellence.
The ETMS team manages enterprise instructional eLearning tools, supports faculty, students, and staff with learning technologies. The team is also responsible for the design, acquisition, installation, and support of technology in classrooms and other educational spaces, ensuring they are equipped with the latest tools in support of effective teaching and learning. Additionally, the ETMS Media Services team provides professional event support, handling over 100 medium to large events annually with services such as video production, audio production, and interactive media streaming.
Recently, Richard was asked to co-lead an AI Team at UNI, continuing to experiment and explore AI, VR, and other emerging technologies to assess their future impact on education.
With over 29 years in higher education, Richard’s career is marked by a commitment to innovation in education, leveraging technology and working with others to enhance academic success and continuously reviewing and testing upcoming technologies to advance teaching and learning at UNI.
